Coverage Recognition

The Straughan’s Air It Out Football Academy offers detailed instruction on how to recognize and adjust to defensive coverages.  It is not enough for quarterbacks to properly throw and receivers to properly catch the football. They must also know how to read and react to the defensive coverage by running their routes into the open area and throwing to the open receiver. Coverage recognition is essential for quarterbacks and receivers who want to elevate their performance on the gridiron.

The AIOFA teaches the strengths and weaknesses of each defensive coverage, including Cover 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and their many variations. Quarterbacks and receivers are taught to read coverages by focusing on (a) how many defensive backs are deep, (b) whether the middle of the field is open or closed with a safety, and (c) the alignment, leverage, eyes, and drops of the corners, safeties, and linebackers. Click the button on the right for a deatiled explanation of each defensive coverage.
