What happens on the field is not about you, but about your team and teammates!

Leadership Qualities

The Straughan’s Air It Out Football Academy is also dedicated to developing leadership attributes in football players. It is not enough to just be a skilled quarterback and receiver. They must also be leaders who possess the qualities of commitment, discipline, confidence, courage and character. We expect players to commit themselves to learning everything about their position. They must have the discipline to work hard in everything and to do things the right way. Be the first player to arrive, last to leave, and the one who works the hardest to get better.

The AIOFA also emphasizes the need for players to be confident by believing in themselves and their potential for greatness. They must have faith in their abilities and the courage to step up and do great things.  Athletes are further taught that their character as a person is what matters at the end of the day. They must respect others, show sportsmanship, and realize that what they do on the field is never about them, but about their team. The AIOFA expects athletes to develop leadership skills that make themselves and everyone else around them better.

Text Box: Who Receives Credit?
Text Box: Who should receive the credit and headlines when a quarterback throws a game winning touchdown pass to a receiver? Most people wrongly assume the QB and receiver. But what about the center who snapped the ball, linemen who blocked, coaches who called the play, defense who held the other team, fans who supported the team, schools who educated the players, and last but not least God. The reality of the situation is that there are hundreds of people responsible for each touchdown pass or catch. So quarterbacks and receivers, celebrate by giving credit to your linemen and everyone else who helped you throw or catch that touchdown pass.
Text Box: It is often claimed in sports that winning the game is everything and the only thing that matters. No doubt winning is a central and rewarding aspect of the game of football. It almost always feels better to win than lose a game. But competing is what really matters in football. Working as hard as you possibly can in each practice, drill, scrimmage, game, quarter, and play is competing. The football player who works hard everyday is a winner because he will always get better, win plenty of games and be a competitor even when his team loses. What really matters in football is whether players have the personal courage, commitment, and character to compete.
